What Clay Does
- Clay automatically creates contacts for people you’ve emailed. This includes everyone back to your first email.
- Clay shows your email history with a person on their profile. You’ll see your first email with a person and your most recent email.
- Clay prioritizes people depending on how well you know them. Don’t worry if you have a ton of emails, Clay will prioritize people you've emailed more.
- Clay surfaces people you’ve recently emailed for the first time in the Home view. Tap on someone to view their profile. On iOS, swipe to the right to star, or swipe to the left to take a note, change the reconnect cadence, or dismiss the reminder.
- Clay tries to filter out newsletters, distribution lists, and spam. It’s hard to have 100% accuracy though, so you can always manually delete these afterwards.
What Clay Doesn’t Do
- Clay doesn’t store your Google credentials like your password. Google only provides a token that Clay uses to pull emails. We never have access to your Google password.
- Clay can’t see the body of emails (i.e. the actual message). This is so important we address it individually. Clay only asks for permission to import email metadata—the To:, Cc:, Subject:, and date. That permission does not provide any access to the body of the email.
- Clay can’t create, modify, or delete emails. Same as above—literally, can’t. We request permission only for creating and enriching contacts in Clay.
FAQs
Why don't I see some events from my calendar?
Here are some of the reasons why some of your events aren't in Clay:
- Your event hasn't happened yet - We don't support a view of your upcoming events yet but we're already working on this! In the meantime, you should see your events on your Home view at least 15 minutes before the time of the event.
- The events are hosted by a third-party software - As long as the event belongs to the calendar, Clay will pick it up. If the event ownership is hosted through a third-party software, Clay will not pick up those events. However, we have used Zoom, Calendly, Savvy Cal, and Cal.com with success internally.
- There are no other people in the event - Clay will also only pick up events that are associated with a contact, so not all events will pull through to your Clay account. If you have events where you're the only attendee, we won't be able to pull it into your Clay.
If the above doesn't apply to the events you're looking for, feel free to send us a message at care@clay.earth so we can take a closer look!
Why don't I see some contacts from my email account?
In order for a contact to be pulled into Clay, the first email from the thread must come from you or you should have responded to their email at least twice.
