Back to Integrations

Zapier

  • Updated

We’ve built direct integrations with many providers and have more on the roadmap, but we can’t build everything. That's why we've built a Zapier integration that allows you to push data to Clay from many other apps!

What is Zapier?

Zapier is an online automation tool that connects your favorite apps, such as Gmail, Slack, Mailchimp, and more. You can connect two or more apps to automate repetitive tasks without any coding or relying on us to build the integration. It’s easy enough that anyone can build their own app workflows with just a few clicks.

Because Zapier allows you to send any type of data from anywhere, it’s basically impossible for us to test every possible permutation! Therefore, treat this as a beta of a beta—let us know if you have any questions, and we’re happy to walk through integrating together to optimize chances for a successful Zapier setup.

Connecting to Zapier

  1. Go to Personal Info in the top right, then Settings on Mac, Web, or iOS
  2. Under Accounts, tap Integrate with Zapier, and then Learn more

  3. You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to connect Clay to your Zapier account

  4. Click Accept Invite & Build a Zap, and Clay will be added as an authorized app to your account

Creating Your First Zap

Zapier works by creating combinations of triggers (events that start a Zap—“when this happens…”) and actions (events that happen as a result—“…do this”).

Currently, Clay only integrates actions (i.e. the “do that” part of “when this happens, do that”) into Zapier. If you’re interested in trigger support, let us know!

  1. Choose a trigger—for example, Airtable—and go through the authentication process

  2. Choose a Clay action and set up the data you want to send over to Clay by selecting values in the drop-downs

    • If the data you’re providing is sending email addresses to Clay to create profiles, choose Create Contact
    • Otherwise, if you’re providing notes to add to an existing contact, choose Create Note

  3. Press Test & Continue to do a test run of this Zap before saving fully

⚠️ After saving your Zap, you’ll likely be creating many new contacts and notes. That’s okay! Clay can handle the inbound. But if things don’t look as expected, let us know, ASAP—the more time that passes, the harder it is for us to undo.
